Lillian Liu: Persephone

A contemporary fashion photography project that merges mythological symbolism with considered styling and emotive portraiture

Persephone is a striking fashion photography project that explores transformation, vulnerability, and myth through carefully considered visual language. Photographer Lillian Liu demonstrates strong conceptual clarity, balancing theatrical styling with classical composition to ensure the imagery remains emotive rather than ornamental. Her use of light and shadow creates depth while allowing texture, form, and expression to remain central. Her work to us, is reminiscent of a carravagio painting - legendary and truly showstopper.

Model Caitin Stickles brings exceptional presence to the series. Her performance is poised and deliberate, conveying strength and introspection.

Hair styling by Tania Becker introduces sculptural movement that echoes natural growth and decay, while florals by Da Fiori Design add organic structure and symbolic weight. Makeup artists Daisy Hsiang and Kelseyanna Fitzpatrick employ nuanced colour and surface detail to enhance mood without overwhelming facial expression.

Costume and fashion design contributions from Michelle Hebert, Firefly Path, Lory Sun, and Agnieszka Osipa demonstrate technical confidence and thoughtful material choice, reinforcing the project’s mythic tone.

Videography by Mychaylo Prystupa complements the still imagery with sensitivity and cohesion. Collectively, the team delivers a visually assured project grounded in respect, craftsmanship, and narrative intent.
