Zuzu Valla: The Last Outfit
A concept-led AW19 fashion editorial by Zuzu Valla, featuring IA London designs that explore clothing as a final act of self-presentation
The AW19 collection by IA London proposes a reconsideration of our own mortality as a fashion event. The importance of making a final impression is brought into focus through questions such as what one would wear to their funeral, whether their appearance is sufficiently youthful or polished, and how they wish to be remembered. These considerations are positioned not as vanity, but as deliberate acts of presentation. IA London proposes carefully designed outfits to suit the occasion, encouraging confidence and excess, acknowledging that there is no second chance.
The AW19 artisanal collection features unique, sculpture-like pieces alongside a series of authentic artworks. These artworks, comparable to paintings, are digitally printed onto heavy velvet, cotton twill and opaque silk, further developing IA London’s distinctive and artistic visual language. The collection is complemented by printed leggings, headwear and silk tote bags, all designed in-house to maintain conceptual and aesthetic coherence.
