HUMAN DECADE
DECEMBER VOLUME 6
Our project consists in a photographic representation of the unbalanced and delicate world of sex working. We chose to illustrate something that is really close to us and that we have already experienced, but that also embody one of the most discussed themes in our society.
We are presenting three different personalities, three different looks, bounded by a common sense of “no-identity”, masquerade and disconnected. Each figure is depicted in a disconcerting confrontational manner and none of them is conventionally gender assigned.
Being able to identify yourself with the character allows you to get closer to it and to comprehend its situation. Here that is not possible, there is no willing from the spectator to understand. They both come from “different” worlds that barely touch each other. They only meet at night, because their meeting is prohibited. The taboo of sex as a job is drenched in centuries of conceptual abolitionism perpetrated by Church and politics.
For this reason we decided to give life to three sex workers seen from the costumer’s perspective. We imagined a situation where the clients are looking at the prostitute from their car window, dwelling only on the surface, ignoring the true essence of what is actually a human being.
