Recycling: Gerard Berr

Recycling explores the intersection of beauty, consumption and identity through a stark monochrome lens. The series transforms everyday symbols of glamour — curlers, cigarettes, latex and metal — into sculptural elements that both construct and restrict the body.

Through repetition and texture, the imagery questions how beauty standards are manufactured, recycled and imposed. The face becomes masked, fragmented or obscured, suggesting a loss of individuality beneath layers of expectation.

At once seductive and confrontational, the series plays with contrast — softness against rigidity, elegance against distortion — revealing the tension between self-expression and control.

Recycling ultimately reflects on the cyclical nature of fashion and image-making, where aesthetics are continuously reworked, repackaged and consumed.
