Carrie Zhang: Reborn
A conceptual fashion editorial exploring transformation, vulnerability and connection through disciplined styling and atmospheric photographic storytelling.
REBORN is a conceptually driven fashion photography project that examines transformation, vulnerability and connection through a restrained yet emotionally resonant visual language. Inspired by The Shape of Water, the series approaches its theme with subtlety, avoiding literal interpretation in favour of atmosphere and gesture.
Photographer Claire Zhao demonstrates a strong command of light and tone, working within a muted palette that enhances texture and form. The imagery balances softness with clarity, allowing each composition to breathe while maintaining cohesion across the narrative. Zhao’s framing encourages stillness and contemplation, reinforcing the project’s introspective mood.
Creative direction and styling by Carrie Zhang form the conceptual backbone of the series. Zhang’s styling choices are deliberate and disciplined, combining sculptural silhouettes with translucent layers and aquatic references. The garments feel integrated into the narrative rather than decorative, supporting the theme of rebirth and emotional evolution. Shade Zhang’s assistance and accessory styling contribute thoughtful detail, ensuring visual continuity and refinement throughout.
Hair and makeup by Mingyuan Song are executed with precision and restraint. The looks enhance the model’s features while complementing the styling and lighting, adding to the project’s ethereal quality. Model Sloane Swan Lewis delivers a composed and nuanced performance, grounding the concept with poise and emotional depth.
