INTERVIEW: FOREVER YOURS BETTY
Feroce got to speak with Sheri Scott of Forever Yours Betty and we asked her about all things Scottish. One of the most successful bloggers our country has to offer, we wanted to know how she did it - and what advice she has for our readers.
You can only sum up your blog in 3 words, which words do you pick?
Colourful, Scottish and Positive!
“No one knows Scotland better than oor Betty.” Tell us, how did you come to be so knowledgeable on all that Scotland has to offer?
Being born and raised in Scotland with no real plans to leave, it’s obvious how excited I get by our fair country. It’s forever keeping you on your toes with new interesting things to see and do and luckily for me, I’ve been attending (and talking about) the openings of an envelopes since Forever Yours Betty launched over 5 years ago, so people tend to keep me in the loop!
When it comes to your blogging and PR, are you formally educated or entirely self taught?
I studied PR and Advertising at Glasgow’s College of Commerce, then graduated from Communication Mass Media at Caledonian University, but I’d say that college taught me everything I needed to know. As I started blogging so many years ago, I have seen PR outreach done badly first hand, so used that to my advantage. After all, the days of sending a standard press release are gone, so I took the leap on my own at the right time to showcase that. Having a retail background has also helped a lot. You get more of an understanding of all levels of communication and sales, which is all PR is at the end of the day!
What time management tips do you have to share when it comes to running your own empire like you do?
Lists, lists and more lists! I have actual lists on top of lists. Generally, one large one for the month, then one for each individual week, followed by one which I split up into the tasks I need to get done for the day. It may sound weird or counter productive to have so many, but honestly I don’t know what I would do without them! Well, that and google calendars. They are a godsend and use them for everything from reminder emails, chasing invoices, instagram scheduling or you know, what they were supposed to be used for - meetings!
A self proclaimed #GirlBoss, can you tell us what that title really means to you? Why would you encourage other women to pursue it?
To be honest, I am falling out of love with the term Girl Boss. Yes, I am a girl who is a boss, but to me all it means is that we are making our own dreams happen. We are taking that giant leap of faith and putting it all in ourselves and saying you know what? I got this. I have been so inspired hearing stories of women around the world leaving the 9-5 and deciding to put their future in their own hands and decide to take what they love and make it into a business.
It’s certainly not for everyone, but for those who live to work and believe in what they do, it’s one of the best decisions they will ever make.
Scotland has a whole lot to offer, you know that better than anyone. But what do you think the best thing Scotland provides to the world is?
A personality, a sense of humour, a kind soul. For me, it’s these personality traits that make Scotland. It’s the people, the laughter, the creativity, the open door policy, that’s what makes us great people and a great place to visit. Well, that and the whiskey!
