INTERVIEW: NASTYA SWAN
Nastya Swan is a young 18yr old Russian-born model, social media influencer and artist based in New York. Through her dedication and commitment, she has become a role-model for many young people across the globe, inspiring them to be more self-confident and stand up for what they believe. As a model she was even a cover-girl on ELLE magazine in Russia and already worked for several preeminent fashion brands.
In less than five years, Nastya has built over 851k Instagram followers and 602k subscribers on YouTube, receiving over 35 million views for her video blogs. Her aim is to inspire people and become a role model for young people, especially women, who increasingly lack self-confidence and seek motivation. Not surprisingly, big fashion labels like Bershka, Maybelline and Dolce&Gab-bana (to name a few) spotted the opportunity and approached Nastya to model for them on Insta-gram and YouTube.
We got the opportunity to speak to Nastya and here’s what went down:
How did you manage to build almost million followers in just a few years?
I never payed attention on the amount of followers or how fast it grows, I always cared about the engagement and interaction with my audience. I love to hear their virtual voices it means that people care about my persona and it makes me feel alive. Everything I have at the moment on social media grew in a really organic way, I just created the context I love and was honest with people. My heart is always open to then and that vulnerability is priceless.
In which way do you influence other teenagers, women in general?
I show them with my own experience that everyone is possible. People follow me for ages, they see me growing, dreaming, failing and moving forward. They see that my dreams come true because of the attitude and hard work. I remind my audience about their value and confidence on the daily basis.
What are your Instagram tips for people who would love to gain more natural followers?
Try to find out who you are from every angle, from tip to toe, from inside out, so you won’t have any doubt about the way you express yourself. Do something that no one does. I know it’s hard but who said that it will be easy?
How do you feel the internet has influenced you over the years and do you think there are any negatives that come alongside this and how do you deal with it?
I became addicted. Always trying to be a better version of myself, trying to become perfect or get close to the perfect Instagram look but it harms you. Our perfection comes from the imperfections. It’s beautiful to be normal, to be real and pure. There are so many things to care about than just our appearance. Love, health, education. Just look around you how many things you miss when you spend hours and hours scrolling someone’s feed. There should be a balance. When Instagram inspires you, that’s an amazing platform. When it makes you fee miserable, please tell your self that you are enough, complete and loved. I promise you.
